Today Morphoplant announced that its patent for the long-term storage and sterilization of ultrahydophilic implant surfaces has been granted by the European Patent Office (EP 2121058). Over the past years ultrahydrophilic implants showing complete wettability by water have become a very promising biomaterial especially in dental implantology. Compared to conventional hydrophobic implants ultrahydrophilic implants actively stimulate new bone formation and healing times are therefore reduced considerably. However these surfaces readily lose their ultrahydrophilicity after exposition to air. Morphoplant has developed a novel method for conserving ultrahydrophilic surfaces in the dry state by applying a protective layer of salt ions. This robust and cheap technique will provide costumers with the choice of fabricating and storing ultrahydrophilic implants at a competitive price.Medical trade fair MEDICA
