European patent office grants patent to Morphoplant for the long-term storage and conservation of ultrahydrophilic implants

Today Morphoplant announced that its patent for the long-term storage and sterilization of ultrahydophilic implant surfaces has been granted by the European Patent Office (EP 2121058). Over the past years ultrahydrophilic implants showing complete wettability by water have become a very promising biomaterial especially in dental implantology. Compared to conventional hydrophobic implants ultrahydrophilic implants actively stimulate new bone formation and healing times are therefore reduced considerably. However these surfaces readily lose their ultrahydrophilicity after exposition to air. Morphoplant has developed a novel method for conserving ultrahydrophilic surfaces in the dry state by applying a protective layer of salt ions. This robust and cheap technique will provide costumers with the choice of fabricating and storing ultrahydrophilic implants at a competitive price.

2th International NRW Symposium on Biomaterials and Biomechanics: Fundamentals and Clinical Applications 2010

From March 17-19, 2010 the “12th International NRW Symposium on Biomaterials and Biomechanics: Fundamentals and Clinical Applications 2010” (www.biomaterials.uni-essen.de) took place at the university Duisburg-Essen. More than 120 participants from 23 countries attended this meeting in order to learn from international renowned speakers in the field of biomaterials. Major topics of this years symposium were:
  • biomolecular materials
  • nanomanufacturing of biomaterials
  • biofriction and biowear
  • angiogenesis
  • molecular dynamics simulation
Morphoplant took actively place in this conference with more than 10 accepted abstracts and four lectures.Like in the last years Morphoplant supported this meeting as a sponsor.
